Watch the First Teaser for the Final Season of 'Poldark'

The end of an era is here.

The final season of Poldark is coming this year, and we’ve finally got our first look at the teaser trailer for the concluding adventures of Ross, Demelza, Caroline, Dwight and friends. Along with what appears to be aged up versions of the Poldark children, and a couple of new faces too.

Season 5 was confirmed to the be series’ last back before Poldark’s fourth season was properly under way here on Masterpiece in the U.S. So, we’ve had a while to get used to the idea of the show ending – but that doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier. So get your Kleenex ready.

The final season will adapt – at least partially – the Winston Graham novel The Stranger From the Sea. However, because that book is set ten years on from where we left our faves at the end of Season 4, writer Debbie Horsfield has instead chosen to tell the story of what happened in those intervening "gap" years between the two. Graham’s novel refers to multiple events that happen in this timeframe and there are plenty of historical moments from the time period to mine as well. So, in theory, there should still be plenty of story to tell, even if the bulk of the actual events of that particular novel are left out.

(And none of the actors has to sport a bunch of aging makeup, which I suspect makes everyone happy, and leaves the door open for a sequel series featuring the next generation of characters at some point. We all win.)

Series stars Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jack Farthing, Harry Richardson, Elise Chappell, Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde are all returning, alongside new faces Lily Dodsworth Evans, Kerri McLean, Sofia Oxenham, Vincent Regan and more.
