The 'Harry Wild' Trailer Introduces A Delightful New Odd Couple

Odd couples solving mysteries is one of TV's most popular tropes, right after "people who solve mysteries in quint English villages." Put the two together, and you get some of TV's longest-running shows: Grantchester, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Inspector Morse, its spin-off, Inspector Lewis, that flip-flopped the odd couple pairing and then Endeavour, which kept the Lewis dynamic while bringing back Morse. Even some of the shorter ones continue the trope, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (and now Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries), Agatha Raisin, and Miss Scarlet & The Duke are all odd couples who work together solving crimes in the U.K. (or Melbourne.)

The latest to join the pantheon comes from Acorn TV, home to both Fisher and Agatha Raisin. The new series, the Irish-set Harry Wild, stars Jane Seymour, best know in America for Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and has starred in such series as The Kominsky Method and Franklin & Bash. As a retired English teacher, she takes up solving crimes in her spare time, inspired by her Detective Chief Inspector son. But it's not her son she pairs up with, but Fergus Reid, played by Rohan Nedd (Whitstable Pearl), a troubled teen she initially meets when he mugs her, and who, when she meets again, realizes needs a mentor and focus in his life.

The series is Acorn TV's big release for April, and the new trailer suggests that if this show takes off, it could run for a very, very long time.
