HBO Max Renews Romantic Comedy 'Starstruck' for a Second Season

Hot on the heels of its premiere on the streaming service, HBO Max has renewed its quirky British romantic comedy Starstruck for a second season.

The series, which aired on BBC Three in the U.K. earlier this spring, stars New Zealand comedian Rose Matafeo, who is also the series creator. Starstruck follows the story of Jessie (Matafeo), a millennial living in East London whose life is currently comprised of working two dead-end jobs and being largely directionless. But when she hooks up with a guy named Tom (Indian Summers' Nikesh Patel) at a drunken New Year's party, she discovers afterward that he's actually a famous film star. (Like, the Tom is actually on magazine covers and movie posters kind of famous.)

The show follows the pair's budding relationship as they realize they can't keep away from each other, no matter how complicated dating an A-lister might actually be for Jessie. It's occasionally uncomfortable humor, to be sure, but it's ultimately an extremely sweet and charming story that may well leave you wondering why television doesn't embrace romantic comedies like this more often.
