Heist Drama 'Quiz' to Air on AMC This Spring

Three-part drama series Quiz, which depicts the famous Who Wants to Be a Millionaire cheating scandal in the U.K., will officially come to America this spring on AMC.

The show retells the real-life, sensational story of Charles Ingram, his wife Diana and an accomplice named Tecwen Whittock, who together attempted to cheat their way to huge winnings during an appearance on the popular game show. Directed by Stephen Frears, Quiz is based on a play of the same name by James Graham.

In 2001, Major Ingram appeared on ITV’s edition of “Millionaire” as a contestants. The couple had arranged a scheme with an accomplice sitting in the audience of coughing to indicate correct answers to the various multiple choice options presented by host, Chris Tarrant. Though Ingram did win the one million pound prize, his check was eventually de-authorized and both the Ingrams and Whittock were all tried in court for their parts in the saga.

Howards End's Matthew Macfadyen and Fleabag's Sian Clifford star as the couple at the center of the scandal, and Good Omens' Michael Sheen plays Millionaire presenter Tarrant. Other famous faces in the cast include Mark Bonnar, Helen McCrory, Michael Jibson and Aisling Bea.
