Lesley Manville Covets Dior in the Trailer for 'Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris'
The Lesley Manville renaissance is truly upon us, with the Academy Award-nominated actress seemingly in every possible project all at once. (This is not in any way a complaint, for the record.)
In just the past handful of years, she's played scheming madam Lydia Quigley in Harlots, the titular mother Cathy in Mum, and snotty socialite Robina Chase in World on Fire, and she's apparently only just getting started. World on Fire is set to return for a second season, but in the meantime, you'll be able to find Manville in nearly a half dozen new high-profile projects, as she takes on the role of Princess Margaret in the final seasons of Netflix hit The Crown, leads new mystery series Magpie Murders, and plays the elder Madame de Merteuil in Starz's upcoming Dangerous Liaisons prequel.
And if all that isn't enough, the trailer for her next feature film is here, a charming period comedy called Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris.
Based on Paul Gallico's 1958 novel Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris—though the film's title has clearly dropped the Cockney accent—the story follows a widowed cleaning woman named Ada Harris who falls in love with a couture Christian Dior evening gown and decides she'll do whatever it takes to own one herself. The ensuing adventure will take her to the streets of Paris itself and open up a life she never thought possible. Full of colorful period details and 1950s fashion, the film already feels like a love letter to the City of Light and the power of following your dreams.
