Sundance Now Sets Release Date for Aidan Turner's 'The Suspect'

The Television Critics Association press tour last week focused heavily on the non-British offerings coming from the AMC Networks stable of streaming services and cable channels and the long-term offerings for the 2023 slate. But buried in the press releases, one title anglophiles have been eagerly awaiting got a release date for this year: Aidan Turner's The Suspect. The ITV series, which is debuting later in August in the U.K., will be making its way over to America ahead of the holiday season, premiering on Sundance Now and AMC+ in November.

Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Michael Robotham, the five-part drama comes from the makers of Line of Duty, Vigil, and The Pembrokeshire Murders. Turner stars as psychologist-turned-murder suspect Dr. Joseph O'Loughlin, who became a hero after his daring rescue of a young patient who was ready to jump from the 10th floor of the hospital was live streamed and watched by millions. Though it brought him success, it also made him famous for risk-taking and rule-breaking. But the clinical psychologist is hiding a recent diagnosis with a debilitating illness. But is that enough for him to have developed a criminal mindset - or worse?

Sundance Now originally picked up the rights to The Suspect along with Showtrial back in the early part of the year. The latter had already aired in the U.K. before being picked up and streamed over here earlier this summer. The Suspect, on the other hand, has not yet debuted on ITV. (The first trailer only arrived on Aug. 8.) The series will run a full five weeks in the U.K. and then hold for a 60-day window before finally arriving over here. As yet, Sundance and AMC+ have not confirmed if all episodes will arrive at once or if the show will stream weekly.
