'Unforgotten' Season 4 To Premiere On Masterpiece In July

As the infamous meme goes, "Nature is healing," and yearly fan-favorite series are starting to return to PBS. First out of the gate, the Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar-led mystery series Unforgotten, which now has a release date as part of a packed summer lineup for Masterpiece. The new season, which finished airing in the U.K. at the end of March, will arrive on this side of the pond starting July 11, just in time for the regular PBS "summer of mysteries."

Unforgotten was last seen on PBS in 2019. Season 3's mystery may have followed the series formula initially, but unlike the other cold cases, this one ended on a brutal note. After nearly bungling the case, and her home life falling apart, DCI Cassie Stuart (Walker) found herself facing down a psychopathic killer. The experience broke her, telling her partner, DI Sunny Khan (Bhaskar), that she couldn't do it anymore and walking away. With no immediate renewal, fans were left unsure if the show would return. Eventually, the show was renewed with filming beginning in January of 2020. And then, of course, the pandemic happened.

Thankfully the show is back, and Season 4 has garnered the best reviews of the series so far. And though the pandemic meant the show missed the 2021 spring season, that means the show will become part of the summer lineup, filling in for the delayed Grantchester and Endeavour that usually air in July and August. Moreover, this time it will come paired with another mystery show, with Professor T (starring Ben Miller) airing at 10 p.m., following Unforgotten's 9 p.m. slot.
