'Unforgotten' Reveals Season 7 Guest Cast as Production Commences
'Unforgotten' Season 7 heads into production with a new all-star guest cast and a brand new cold case.
It is rare for a show to continue to gain audiences after more than five years on the air, but those who hold that title are some of the biggest shows of the last decade. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones are the ones that come to mind first, all of which hit record audiences in their final seasons. That puts Unforgotten in rarified air on American broadcast, as Seasons 5 and 6 broke new ratings records with their debuts, making it one of the few PBS shows in modern history to hold this distinction.
With Season 6 reaching an all-time viewership high when it aired on ITV in 2025, it wasn't a surprise that the network announced Season 7's commission in April 2025, months before it even debuted on PBS Masterpiece. However, the production timeline continues as it always has, with production only getting underway in the U.K. in January 2026, suggesting that fans will be waiting until early 2027 before the episodes arrive in the U.K., before crossing the pond to PBS in late summer/early autumn.
As it has since the show's debut back in 2015, Unforgotten will once again bring four high-profile guest stars aboard as the case's four main suspects, with the highest-profile being Sophie Rundle, who is best known for Gentleman Jack, Happy Valley, and After the Flood.
Here's the synopsis for Unforgotten's latest case:
Season 7 opens with the chilling discovery of human remains in the crawl space of a house in Ladbroke Grove, London. Early forensic analysis suggests the body is that of a child and has been deliberately concealed for several years. The investigation takes a deeply personal turn for the team when a DNA match links the victim to a previously closed historic case, compelling DCI Sunny Khan and DCI Jess James to revisit the original inquiry and unravel the truth behind a decades-old crime.

Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinead Keenan return to star as DI Sunny Khan and DI Jessie James, now on their third case together. The rest of the main ensemble will also return, including Jordan Long (DS Murray Boulting), Carolina Main (DS Fran Lingley), and Pippa Nixon (DC Kaz Willets). Georgia Mackenzie also returns as team pathologist and Sunny's latest love interest, Dr. Leanne Balcombe; Andrew Lancel will also be back as Jess's philandering ex-husband Steve, and Kate Robbins as her mother, Kate.
Rundle will lead this season's cast of suspects as social worker Mary Brock. She co-stars alongside Kirsty J Curtis (Joan) as inmate Lacee Cook, Julian Rhind-Tutt (Tom Jones) as struggling addict Hugh Swafham, and Natalie Simpson (Trigger Point) as journalist Ruby Allenford.

Season 7 will also feature Paula Wilcox (Trying) and Philip Martin Brown (Death Comes to Pemberley), plus Jo Hartley (Adolescence), Paul Kaye (The Hack), Nicholas Burns (The Serpent Queen), Andrew Tiernan (Innocent), Ben Bailey Smith (Andor), Dominic Coleman (Bridgerton), David Fynn (Lazarus), India Brown (Invasion), Sonya Nisa (Damsel), Joshua Sher (Lynley), Rachel Atkins (Grantchester), Roger Dipper (Sherwood), Cameron Jack (Rain Dogs), Mark Jax (Merlin), Joe McNamara (Call the Midwife), and Yazdan Qafouri (I Came By).
As usual, series creator Chris Lang (I, Jack Wright) penned all six episodes, with director Andy Wilson returning to helm all installments. Lang executive produces with Deborah Morgan, who moves up after acting as line producer for Seasons 5 and 6. The series is co-produced by Sally Haynes and Guy de Glanville for Mainstreet Pictures, with Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece, and Huw Kennair-Jones overseeing production on behalf of ITV.
Unforgotten Season 7 is currently in production in the U.K., with plans to film on location in central London (Ladbroke Grove), the coastal setting of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and locations in Coventry and Halifax, as well as Reading Prison. The new season is expected to premiere in early 2027 on ITV in the U.K., followed by PBS in the U.S. in the second half of the year. Seasons 1 through 6 are currently available to stream for members on PBS Passport or via the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
